Our Diamond Resources
South Africa is the world's fourth largest diamond producer by value. Out of 31 significant kimberlite mines in production around the world, 16 are in Africa and they account for 57% of the world production by value. SSC Diamond owns two diamond mines in South Africa, namely Frank Smith and Loxton Dal.
Frank Smith and Loxton Dal are historic diamond mines located in the famous Kimberley district in South Africa, both with significant production history. Both mines have successfully undergone diamond exploratory programmes which yielded promising estimates for their diamond volume and tonnages.
The core-drilling explorations performed on Frank Smith and Loxton Dal Mines covered over 3,000 meters and 1,000 meters respectively, and the results revealed high volume and gem quality of the diamond resources, which are currently being verified by Independent Geologist and Competent Persons in the anticipation that the resources will be upgraded to Indicated Status.
Since 2011, SSC Diamond has invested more than 100 million South African Rand to achieve significant improvement of the mining infrastructure in preparation for re-commencing full-scale surface and underground operations for both mines.
FRANK SMITH Diamond Mine
Discovered in 1892, Frank Smith Diamond Mine has a new order mining right of over 216 hectares and an estimated resource of 11.3 million tonnes of kimberlite ore including 4.88 million tonnes of tailings ore. In 2011 to 2015, 14,748 carats of rough diamonds have been recovered from 694,132 tonnes of tailings which generated a gross revenue of USD 3.9million.
A Diamond Drillhole Exploration programme was successfully completed in April 2018 where nine boreholes were drilled to 400m level, demonstrating kimberlite rock structures and favourable estimates of diamond quantity and grade.
LOXTON DAL Diamond Mine
Discovered in 1965, the Loxton Dal Diamond Mine bears over 3.2 million tonnes of kimberbile ore. Since 1967, a total of 208,870 carats have been recovered from Loxton Dal. Our latest exploration programme involving five boreholes of average depth of 271 meters confirmed an additional >900,000 carats and an estimated increase of Indicated Resource by 30%.
